Hey Mamas!
So, I’ve been stuck at home this week. I left work early on Tuesday thinking I just had a regular cold. But when I couldn’t smell anything while doing laundry—no detergent or no dryer sheet scent—it hit me: I may have COVID. When the doctor told me that my results were positive, I could have sworn he rigged my results. Good thing is that I was able to spend my week catching up on much needed rest and bonding time with my mom and daughter. Honestly, it’s a little crazy to me that COVID is still around and messing up our lives, but here we are.
Sick Mom Life: The Struggle Is Real
To add more fuel to the fire, I had to reschedule my hair appointment to NEXT Saturday. Which, of course, is after Thanksgiving, so I’ll be looking bold on Thanksgiving, I could actually cry. I really need to learn how to take care of hair. I’m pushing thirty and I need to know how to do my own hair for emergencies like these.
And it turns out I’m not the only one under the weather—my daughter has a cough too. So now, we’re both just walking around coughing, eating snacks and playing with all of her toys.
Here’s the thing about being a sick mom: you still have to take care of a kid. All I want to do is curl up in my heated blanket, watch holiday rom-coms, and nap. But no, Parker’s still asking for Mickey Mouse, fruit snacks, and juice every five minutes. If you’re a mom who’s had to push through feeling under the weather while taking care of a little one, you know it’s a superpower. Seriously, I’m amazed at how we moms keep it together.
In these moments, I’m super grateful I still live with mine. If she wasn’t here to help lighten the load, I’d probably lose my mind. Shoutout to all the grandmas who step in and save the day!
A Hair Day for Parker
Since we’ve both been stuck inside, I figured today was as good a day to have a “hair day” for P. That includes washing, detangling, moisturizing, and if she’s in the mood, styling. Let me just be honest here—I’m not winning any awards for Parker’s hair care routine, it’s super dry right now. I always dreamed of having a little girl, but what I didn’t realize was how much work goes into caring for her hair!
Growing up, I would get in trouble for playing in my hair. My mom had this intense fear that I’d end up bald (lol), so now I’m paying the price, because I’m clueless about how to take care of P’s hair.
But I’ve been doing some research (on, TikTok of course), and I recently picked up a few products that I’m hoping will help.
Until Next Time
At the end of the day, though, I know that this is just a season. The coughs will pass, the hair will eventually get better, and somehow, someway, we’ll make it through. In the meantime, I’m just trying to take things one day at a time—and hoping Parker’s hair doesn’t turn into a total disaster.
Until next time,
Janise
